Day One

Saturday, 28 March, Bago is the first round of the AMSAG Southern Cross rally series for 2026.

The Hastings Sporting Car Club and AMSAG Incorporated are once again bringing you an event with a difference, only ONE repeat stage in the whole event, Two Night stages and one being 33klms competitive.

This Year Bago 2026 once again, be sponsored by Kuhmo Tyres Australia. I would like to take this opportunity to think David Basher and his team from Marketing for all their help assistance in providing outfits and promo gear for all our officials. To all our local sponsors thanks again for all your support, And a very special thankyou to all the officials without them we can’t have this rally. Without the dedicated officials Rallies would mostly be memories and you and I would be just watching motorsport on TV.

This year is 60 years of the Southern Cross In this Bago Forest area so this year we have honoured some of our locals who have competed over the years, naming stages after past and some still present Legends.

Last year, after 3 false starts due to weather, loosing roads and making it impossible to run the same event twice, Scott keys and Shane Schmitzer have backed up to create a bigger and unique event and adding a couple of night stages.

Both Shane and Scott devoted untold hours putting together the best event possible event, some of the roads are a mix of all three events from last year plus some that no-one would have rallied on since the 1980’s. So Longer and technical stages are what you’re getting this year.

Same service park as prior years, Hastings Valley Motorcross Club have been working on their grounds and have some new amenities, which are a welcome addition. The Start, Service (x2) and the finish will be at the same location. Food Will be available throughout the day.

This year we will be using RallySafe to keep a eye on you all being safe we know exactly where competitors are at all times, so a reminder, you MUST have a Rallysafe fitting kit IN YOUR CAR at Scrutineering.

To everyone involved in this event, I personally would like to say thank you for your efforts in making this event happen and wish each and every one of you a safe and happy Bago Rally.

Remember Motorsport is dangerous and you’re the one with the steering wheel and the accelerator to finish first, but first one Must finish and remember they’re $18 trophies! Heroes end up in hospitals listen to your navigator and slow On the cautions

Thanks once again to everyone and I’ll see you all back at the after party

Yours in Motorsport
Peter Leicht

Vehicle Eligibility

A reminder of the AMSAG Vehicle Eligibility as it pertains to the Classic and Open Series as we had several competitors last year selecting multiple classes for their car on the entry form.

Please ensure you make yourself familiar with the Categories for Competition Vehicles, found on page 27 of the 2026 Rally Series Documents - https://www.amsag.com.au/regs-forms

Please ensure you select the correct vehicle class when entering the event, you should only have one option selected. Either Classic, which is then split into engine capacity classes depending on the size of the engine in your vehicle or Open which is split into drive train type (4WD, RWD or FWD)
